With Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Durga Puja, andKarwa Chauth over, we are in the middle of the festive season and are staring at Diwali, bhai dooj, and more. During occasions such as these, we deck up in our choicest apparel, and jewellery, and do the perfect makeup. But after having all the fun, do you remove your makeup and cleanse your face? Experts say this is more necessary than you think.
Expert States 3 Reasons Why You Should Remove Makeup
Dr. Anupriya, Consultant Cosmetologist, Kosmoderma Skin, Hair & Body Clinics, Bengaluru, notes, "Festival season is more demanding as you apply makeup almost on a daily basis." But it's crucial to remove all the foundation, concealers, lipsticks, kajal, and morebefore you retire for the day. She lists the top three reasons:
1) To Keep Skin Infections At Bay
Dr. Anupriya says if you forget to remove makeup, "There can be a trigger to allergic reactions and skin inflammation and redness." She adds that your eyes also get impacted by this. "There are high chances of eye puffiness and infections as the sensitive area around the eyes can get damaged by overusage of makeup products," Dr. Anupriya says.

2) Delaying Premature Aging
Dr. Anupriya explains how keeping makeup on your face affects collagen, an important protein that provides structure and support to your skin, bones, muscles, and other connective tissues. It's "the main skin protein," and maintains "the skin's elasticity and firmness. But when makeup is left on the skin for a longer time, it breaks down collagen leading to premature aging such as fine lines and wrinkles." So, once you remove the makeup, you save your skin from premature aging, the doctor concludes.
3)Prevents Skin Breakouts
"Festival season demands heavier makeup than usual and, when left unremoved, can accelerate breakouts on the skin by clogging the skin pores. This can further lead to blackheads or whiteheads," Dr. Anupriya elaborates. To provide more clarity, the Bengaluru-based cosmetologist says that "heavy makeup can strip off the natural oils of the skin." So, if it's not taken off, "(your) skin tends to become dry and irritated...so, if you cleanse your face and remove makeup, it becomes hydrated and well moisturized. Post-cleansing, apply a gentle moisturizer," she wraps up.
So, next time, pay heed to Dr. Anupriya's suggestions, and you will be able to enjoy yourself without fearing any skin breakouts. In other words, it is a total win-win for you.
