Korean glass skin hype on social media has compelled people to try out Korean skincare. This Korean glass skin glow is a term coined to describe flawless, radiant and dewy skin. The term has recently gained popularity through the K-beauty movement, which emphasises achieving clear, radiant, and healthy-looking skin through a meticulously curated skincare routine. The buzz around this skincare has made every influencer try a korean skincare routine for a glass skin glow. To understand the hype, we spoke to Dr Manali Padhye, Aesthetic Physician and Cosmetologist at I2CAN.
Dr Manali said, “While achieving this look requires consistency, the underlying principles are rooted in healthy skin care practices. Many of the key ingredients used in Korean skincare have been studied and recognised for their beneficial properties.”
Korean Skincare Key Ingredients
Here are the Korean skincare ingredients that are known for their impact:
Hyaluronic Acid
A naturally occurring substance in the skin that maintains moisture levels.
Niacinamide
It has the potential to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of pores, and enhance skin barrier function.
Green Tea Extracts
Packed with antioxidants, green tea extracts protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and reduce inflammation.
Centella Asiatica
Cica has gained recognition for its regenerative and soothing properties.

Korean Skincare: Revolutionary Or An Unrealistic Trend?
Dr Manali said, “One of the major challenges with the overhype of Korean glass skincare is the pressure it creates to attain flawless skin. The emphasis on achieving flawlessness can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-consciousness for those who are unable to meet these unrealistic standards. Indian skin tone is varied and factors such as genetics, environment, and lifestyle play a significant role in its appearance. The pursuit of glass skin can set unattainable goals and foster dissatisfaction with one's natural skin texture.”
“Ultimately, whether the glass skin glow is a revolutionary trend or just a fad may depend on individual perspectives and experiences. However, the Korean skincare regime has made a significant impact on the beauty and skincare industry, prompting a re-evaluation of beauty standards and skincare practices. While it has undeniably influenced the skincare industry and sparked conversations about beauty standards, its long-term impact remains to be seen,” Dr Manali added.
