My heart mopes with each strand of hair that I lose. When I pull out hair stuck to my hair brush or when I see them swirling down the drain, a part of me just…dies. And I am sure I am not the only one who wipes tears at the loss of their hair. Heat, pollution, chemicals, stress…there are so many enemies of our mane. And double that number, are the products in the market that promise to replenish our parched scalp. Tall claims and high prices, exotic ingredients and fancy names. But do they work? How do you put your trust in a product without knowing it will work or not? Moreover, are you absolutely sure that the hair care product, that you just foot a hefty bill for, won’t damage your hair instead of protecting it?
Stress not! HerZindagi is here to take care of that. We will try out and test products for you and give you an honest review, to help you take a decision on whether you would want to invest in the product or give it a miss. Read on to find out if this hair oil delivers on the promises it makes.
Kama Bringadi Hair Oil: The Promises
Kama’s Ayurveda makes a promise of ‘all organic’, that is to say, no chemicals are used in their products. As a brand, Kama Ayurveda has made a mark, as a credible, authentic organic brand, since it was launched in India in 2002. Their Bringadi Intensive Hair treatment is a best seller and is pitched as an “An all-in-one hair treatment for hair loss, premature graying & dandruff ”. At a cost of 650 rupees for a 100 ml bottle, this is no cheap buy. The oil has a shelf life of 3 years.

The Claim
The company will have us believe that this hair oil a traditional ayurvedic recipe. A carefully crafted amalgamation of potent herbs extracted into pure sesame oil and milk. The oil is supposed to condition the hair while cooling the scalp. Take a look at the ingredients on the bottle and you will also see Indigo, gooseberry ( amla), Eclipta Alba ( bhrigraj), and we have grown up knowing the benefits of these herbs. Apart from hair growth and strength, the oil also claims to cleanse the scalp of fugus and excess oil.
The Packaging
The oil comes in a simple yet classy, dark brown plastic bottle with a golden cap. Once the seal is broken the cap does not fit too tight, and that makes this packaging travel unfriendly.
The Smell
You will meet the strong herbal scent as soon as you uncap the bottle. The smell is strong but not unpleasant. In fact it would remind you of a Kerala Spa. Nothing you can’t handle.
The Texture
The oil is a deep brown in colour and has a thick consistency. The application recommendation is to massage it well, and you will realize that you will be able to work a small amount of oil into your entire scalp. Good thing is that the oil is not sticky.
The Experience
I have been using Kama Ayurveda Bringadi Intensive Hair Treatment Oil for a month now. I tried applying it a night before the wash but the scent is a bit pungent and it made me heady. So after one overnight treatment, I have been massaging it into my scalp for about 20 minutes and then letting it stay for an hour before I wash it out. Although the oil is thick, it is gets washed off easily. Quite unlike other organic oils that need a double, triple shampoo rinses. I love the fact that the oil leaves a natural conditioning in the hair, so I do not need a conditioner after the shampoo. My hair which ordinarily would go oily and limp, two days after the shampoo, have started staying bouncy and fresh longer. My scalp has also never felt this healthy and clean.

The Observations
Over a month of use, twice a week and I have seen a change. My hair fall has reduced, dandruff has gone. My hair does not go limp and oily, like they used to, 2-3 days after the wash. Before using this oil, my hair would go brittle and charged when I used heat on them while ironing or blow-drying. After only 4 weeks of using Bringadi, I have noticed that my hair is looking glossier and more manageable even without styling. There is a bounce in my hair, which gives the appearance of a much thicker and healthier mane. Although, I did not find any new hair growth, those with thinning hairline will appreciate the volumizing quality of the hair oil.
Another interesting thing that has worked for me, is that my hair has taken a deeper hue. I think the Indigo in the oil has made my hair turn a more darker shade. Not saying that my grey strands have turned black, but the hair colour in general has taken a subtle brown hue, which I am enjoying. I have also just started using Kama Ayurveda’s Henna & Indigo powder and will be sharing my review for that soon!
Pros
• 100% organic
• Significantly reduces hair loss
• Prevents dandruff
• Stands true to the promise of conditioning & making hair soft and shiny
• Gives bounce and volume to the hair
• Easy to rinse off
Cons
• At 650 rupees for 100 ml, it is an expensive product
• Travel unfriendly packaging
• Slightly pungent Smell
• No significant effect on hair length or new hair growth
The Verdict
For me, the pros trump the cons. And I will be ordering my second bottle of Kama Ayurveda Bringadi Hair Treatment. With all the neglect and ill treatment, that I subject my hair to, I think they deserve an intensive treatment that nourishes with authentic herbal ingredients.
