There are only a few days left for Pitru Paksha of this year to start. You can also satisfy and pay your regards to your ancestors by planting these certain plants. It is considered very important to worship ancestors on this day so that they can attain salvation.
According to the Hindu calendar, Pitru Paksha is starting on Friday, September 29 this year. If you are not aware of the dates of the ancestors and are not able to perform Pind Daan, even for some other reason, then there are some trees and plants which can be planted to appease the ancestors and bring good luck in the person's life. It is believed that this can even chase one's problems away.

Sacred Fig (Peepal Tree)
According to the beliefs of the Sanatan Dharma, along with Lord Vishnu, ancestors also reside in the Peepal plant. If this plant is planted and taken care of during Pitru Paksha, it becomes a tree and provides shade to the people for hundreds of years.

The Peepal tree is also considered to be a divine tree. It is said that on the basis of dates in Pitru Paksha, the ancestors come to the house and after taking food and water, go back to the Peepal tree. Therefore planting a Sacred Fig plant is considered to be very auspicious. By doing this, one can get the blessings of the ancestors and happiness can also come in the family.
Banyan Tree
Planting a banyan tree during this time can be very auspicious. This can help you appease the ancestors and get relief from all troubles. The belief is that planting this plant helps the process of all the Gods and Goddesses residing with the ancestors. Water must be offered to the banyan tree daily.
Jand Plant (Shami Plant)
It is believed in the Hindu religion that Shani Dev resides in the Jand plant and planting it can bring happiness and peace in your life. If you want to please your ancestors then you can plant a Shami tree during Pitru Paksha for auspicious results.
Other Options
While it is auspicious to plant these trees during the Pitru Paksha, apart from these plants, you can also opt for plants like Bael, Tulsi, Jamun etc. to help your ancestors attain salvation. But you will have to make sure that whichever plant you opt for, should never dry out. Be sure to offer water to it daily.
