Detective Ujjwalan OTT Release To Arrive On Netflix

The investigative thriller is reportedly all set to arrive on Netflix. However, there is no confirmation on its release date as of now. According to film industry buzz, including a social media post by AB George, the digital rights of the movie have been acquired by Netflix. This comes as a surprise as the streaming platform hasn’t often backed Malayalam movies in recent months.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), George wrote “#DetectiveUjjwalan OTT Deal — Digital giant Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical digital rights! Netflix rarely picks up Malayalam films these days — but thanks to @W_Blockbusters' previous collaborations and the film’s cinematic universe concept, this one made the cut. Satellite rights have been secured by Zee. Netflix's official announcement is coming soon!”

Detective Ujjwalan’s Plot, Cast, Crew, And More

Directed by Rahul G and Indraneel GK, the movie follows a local detective from a village named Plaachikkaavu who gets embroiled in a high-stakes mystery which challenges his skills and intellect. The film’s screenplay is penned by the directors themselves.. Apart from Dhyan, the supporting cast members include Siju Wilson, Rony David, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Ameen Nihaal Nizam, Kalabhavan Navas, Shahubas, Nirmal Palazhy, Josy Sijo, and Nibraz Noushad.

Although the film was a box office success, ETimes gave a 2.5 out of 5 rating to Dhyan's starrer, "There are some rules that a detective story needs to make it work and for the effect to stay with us. Some red herrings that will confuse the audience so that we are emotionally and intellectually caught up in the story, a detective who uses logic that will baffle us with its brilliance and a final revelation of the culprit that will shock us. Detective Ujjwalan does not use any of these devices in a forceful enough manner. The period settings are interesting and the village characters are lovable enough, though some of the superb comic talents from social media, Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz and Shahubas, are barely utilised. The film seems to go in the direction of most Dhyan films: a bit of an anti-climax.”
