World Day Against Trafficking In Persons: Date
Every year, July 30th is observed as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. World Day Against Trafficking In Persons: History
The United Nations General Assembly established the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons back in 2013. This step was taken as a part of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which was adopted in 2010. The objective of this was to fight against human trafficking in the United Nations' broader development and security agendas. It’s been more than ten years since this day was observed as a way to raise awareness, take global action, and support victims of human trafficking.
World Day Against Trafficking In Persons: Theme And Significance
Every year, as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons approaches, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) announces a theme for the year, ensuring communities focus on a different specific issue. This year’s theme is “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking." This year’s theme focuses on the heinous crime of child trafficking, and as per the United Nations, the objective is to spread awareness about the “children who are subjected to various forms of trafficking, including exploitation in forced labor, criminality or begging, trafficked for illegal adoption, and online and sexual abuse and exploitation.”

This theme is essential because, as per the UNODC’s Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, “one in three victims of human trafficking is a child. “Leave no one behind” is the central, transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
