Smriti Mandhana, the Indian cricketer who plays for the Indian women's national team, has bagged a bid from the Royal Challengers Bangalore worth ₹3.4 crores at the auction of the first edition of the Women’s Premier League or women’s IPL 2023. The highly-anticipated auction took place in Mumbai on February 13, 2023, where 87 players were bought at a whopping amount of ₹59.5 Crores.
The women’s IPL is set to begin on March 4, 2023, and will be aired on the Sports18 television channel and JioCinema, both owned by Viacom18. Let’s have a look at the 87 players who made it from among the 448 cricketers who went under the hammer at the auction and those bought at the highest bids.

Highest Bought Indian Players
After Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, the current third-highest individual scorer by a woman cricketer in ODIs with 188 runs, was bought at ₹2.6 crores by UP Warriorz followed by 22-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues was bought at ₹2.2 crores by Delhi Capitals. She recently took India to win against Pakistan at the ongoing T20 Women’s World Cup. Next in line was Shafali Verma who was bought at ₹2 crores by Delhi Capitals again. It was Verma under whose captaincy, India won the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the India Women's National Cricket Team in all formats, was bought at ₹1.8 crores by Mumbai Indians. Pooja Vastrakar, who plays for Madhya Pradesh as well as India, was bought at ₹1.9 crores by Mumbai Indians while Richa Ghosh, who was crucial in India’s win against Pakistan in partnership with Rodrigues, was bought at the same price by RCB. Following this was Devika Vaidya playing for Maharashtra currently, who was bought at ₹1.4 crores by UP Warriorz. Renuka Singh, who plays for Himachal Pradesh as well as nationals, was bought at ₹1.5 crore by RCB.

Highest Bought Non-Indian Players
Australian cricketers Ashleigh Gardner was bought at a whopping ₹3.2 crores after Mandhana followed by Ellyse Perry bought at ₹1.7 crores by RCB, Meg Lanning was bought at ₹1.1 crores by Delhi Capitals. While England cricketer Sophie Ecclestone was bought at ₹1.8 crore and South African cricketer Shabnim Ismail at ₹1 crore by UP Warriorz.
Another English cricketer Natalie Sciver was bought at ₹3.2 crores at par with Gardner along with Amelia Kerr at ₹1 crore by Mumbai Indians. Australian cricketer Tahlia McGrath was bought at ₹1.4 crores by UP Warriorz and Marizanne Kapp at ₹1.5 crores by Delhi Capitals. Yet another Australian cricketer Beth Mooney has been bought at ₹2 crores by Gujarat Giants. All in all 14 Australian players have been bought in the first edition of the upcoming women’s IPL.
