This year, the winter solstice will occur on Thursday, 22 December 2022. The winter solstice marks the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. The word "solstice" originated from the Latin solstitium meaning "sun stands still”.
For those living in the Northern Hemisphere, the days start becoming longer and the nights get shorter after the Winter Solstice. For those who live in the Southern Hemisphere, the opposite effect occurs. When one of the Earth's poles tilts the most away from the sun, it occurs. Since the time of the ancient Romans, people all across the world have celebrated it. According to Pagans, Winter Solstice is the end of darkness and rebirth of the Sun. It is also regarded as a moment to express gratitude (Mother's Day Special: Inspiring Mom Ritika Sewani Gets An Incredible Makeover With HZ) for the abundance of the earth.
