It has come with firing of four top Twitter executives - Chief Executive Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, Sean Edgett, who has been General Counsel and Vijay Gadde as legal head. Last week, Elon Musk slammed Twitter's top lawyer Vijaya Gadde in a series of harsh tweets, leading a former business official to claim that the billionaire bullied Gadde and launched a harassment campaign against her.
Who Is Vijaya Gadde?
Vijaya Gadde was born in Hyderabad and immigrated to the US when she was three years old. She graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor of science in industrial and labour relations. To study law, she enrolled at New York University. She also had a senior director post at Juniper Networks' legal division. She joined Twitter in 2011.
As Twitter's chief legal officer, she made about $17 million in 2021 and almost $7.3 million in 2020, according to a Bloomberg Law report. Her main responsibilities at the company included responding to harassing and false news tweets.
This is not the first time she is in limelight as earlier also she played a vital role in terminating ex-President Donald Trump’s account on Twitter. In 2018, a picture of Gadde holding a sign that read "Smash Brahmanical Patriarchy" while posing with Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey went viral in India. The incident generated a lot of debate. Some critics said that the feeling was anti-Brahmin, while others claimed that it was more anti-caste. She was nonetheless compelled to apologise in a series of tweets.
