In today’s digital-first world, screens are omnipresent, such as TVs, tablets, phones, and even smart toys. For many parents, these devices offer a quick solution to calm a fussy toddler or keep them occupied. However, it is important to understand the long-term impact of excessive screen exposure.
Excess screen time is now being associated with frequent mood swings, delayed speech, disturbed sleep, and poor social interaction in young children. What seems like harmless entertainment may become a matter of concern as the child grows. The WHO recommendation (no screen time for children under two years and no more than one hour/day for children aged 2-5)

Many parents don’t realise that signs like constant restlessness, poor sleep, or tantrums after screen time may be related. Since screens are used to soothe or reward kids, they often become dependent on digital devices.

Ensure to limit the screen time; one hour per day should be enough for the toddlers. It is necessary to create screen-free zones when it comes to bedrooms, dining tables, and family time. Parents should watch educational content with their children instead of scrolling reels, and encourage children to play outdoor games.
Moreover, opt for activities such as dance, music, gardening, drawing, painting, and puzzle-solving with the child. Parents need to limit their screen use when around their child.
Doing so can help you bond better with the child. Encourage the child to interact with others. It is the need of the hour to reduce the usage of screens and improve the quality of life of the child.
