Not Chocolates, Teddy Bears & Roses, Here Are 4 Things Women Want For Valentine's

Valentine’s day, roses, teddy bears and chocolates get more hype than they deserve. However, you can add your own personal touches and make the day special for your partner. Here are a few things that women would like more than expensive gifts and dates.

Valentine’s week will start on February 7, and people in my social space will bombard every corner of the internet with images of roses, chocolates, teddy bears, and whatnot. These are oh-so-adorable, delicious, and utterly cute gifts. I have nothing against them, in fact, I would even appreciate it if my partner would get them for me because the thought counts.

H I can use teddy bears to decorate my room. I can use roses or other flowers to decorate my living room, and eat chocolate to load up on dopamine, endorphins, oxytocin and serotonin hormones.

I like gifts that I can use extensively, something that remains with me for an indefinite period and would remind me of the sweet soul who brought me the gift. Here are a few things that I would like as Valentine's present rather than the clichéd ones.

Books

I am a bibliophile, and I am sure there are many other people who love to read books and collect them. People like me always get stuck with the dilemma; should I buy another new book or read the unread ones I already have?

It is, of course, a no-brainer that I always end up buying new ones even though my 2.5ftX2.5ftX4.5ft bookshelf remains overstuffed. While I would blush to see a red rose bouquet delivered to my doorstep, my happiness would know no bounds to see a book, even better if it is hardbound and delivered to my home.

On any given day, a red rose costs ₹20. But a nice bouquet costs no less than ₹500 these days. Around Valentine’s day, the price for roses and other flowers like orchids shoots up.

If you are kind enough to think of giving me a ₹700 or ₹1000 bouquet, you might instead get me a sling bag from the shelves of Caprese, Lavie, Hidesign, Baggit or any other brand. I would use it more.

Massage Session

Flowers, soft toys and chocolates have a fan following, but no person would deny the wonders a massage can do. If my partner is willing to make the effort to buy me the usual stuff, I would suggest booking me a good massage session via Urban Company or other enterprises that offer salon service at home.

While chocolates can release happy hormones in our bodies, a massage can relax my mind and open my knotted muscles too.

Breakfast In Bed

Here is a thing that I believe, any person, irrespective of their gender, would appreciate more than expensive gifts. So if my partner were to plan a lavish date for me in a good restaurant, I would be excited.

However, I would blush more if I get breakfast in bed or if my partner planned a nice cosy date at home. Efforts like this make for more memorable memories.

Spend the Day Doing Nothing

Yes, please! Sometimes we think too much about gifts and decide how much to spend. How about we spend on nothing by doing nothing, except for obviously ordering comfort food all day long?

I feel Valentine’s day and gifts get much more hype than they should. I would rather spend a day with my beau, talking, cracking jokes, watching our favourite film, binge-watching Schitt’s Creek (or other comfort shows), munching on junk food, and cuddling than spending on materialistic things.

Now that I have shared insights into a woman’s heart and mind, you guys can also test the waters with your partner and do something (extra) ordinary rather than a bunch of clichés.
