But a rangoli design made with threads and iron nails is going viral on social media and winning hearts.

A video of a Delhi woman Muskan Rajput making colourful rangoli using nails and threads was shared on Instagram by @craftsbazaar. She used nails that she evenly placed across a circle board. After that, she added colourful threads in a flower-like pattern to make a beautiful floral rangoli design. According to Rajput, it took her two days to complete the rangoli.

Sharing the video of the rangoli making, she wrote, "In the chilling rain of Delhi, it took me two days to complete this one. For a long time, I was in search of something extravagant for this Diwali and I’m convinced this string art is just perfect for that ✨Your Diwali is going to be a little extra this time 💖🪔"

Significance Of Rangoli In Diwali

Diwali is an auspicious Hindu festival which is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and joy. On this day, people dress up in new clothes and decorate their houses with diyas, candles and rangoli. Rangolis are a major part of Diwali as they are believed to be a symbol that can ward off negative energy. It also signifies welcoming Goddess Lakshmi on Diwali.

Rangoli's Significance Can Be Traced Back To Africa

According to reports, designing rangoli is not only a part of Indian culture but its roots can also be traced back to an African tribe who reportedly had a tradition of crafting mandala-like designs after prayers.

The tradition also included the devotees sitting around the pattern. People in the tribe used to create such a design to attract animals, making it easier to hunt.
