Those old songs, beautiful quotes and poetries that wekeep sharing on our social media came from somewhere right? You love them so much that the moment you hear someone recite them, you stop and listen yes? So why are you not using it yourself? Why are we letting these beautiful languages die at all? Here is a beautiful authored piece by Professor Urshila Chanana, who tells us how can the youth save them!
A language is a tool of communication that grows and evolves through cultural diversity. Language is a tehzeeb that can not be encased in narrow spheres as a possession. I find the interflow of Hindi and Urdu in our country truly charming and enriching.
It is true Hindustani creating an amalgamation that connects people across borders and within the country providing a beautiful link between different perceived religions and communities encouraging harmony. This obliterates cultural divides and social fences and creates integration and fresh dimensions of awareness that unites.
The young generation of today does not want to be bogged down with fine demarcations of scholastic aspects in languages. They are aware of ‘different levels’. They see the same eye view from different facets. The youth read from the circumstance of their different needs and experiences and locate their own definitions - conflicting horizons of language do not seem to bother them.

Elitism and a puritanical approach to put the two beautiful languages Hindi and Urdu in watertight compartments will hinder its reach to the young ones of today. History tells us both are ‘ Sanjhee Zubaan’. ‘mushtarkah zubaan’.
Hindi is Madhur bhasha and Urdu Is dilkash Nafees zubaan .. Hindi through the wisdom of Kabeer ke dohe, Munshi Premchand ki kahaniyan And Urdu through the unparalleled depth of Ghalib and Faiz, together make for a pulsating rhythm of todays cultural consciousness and the energy of both in its intermingling should be encouraged.
It is heartening to see crosscurrents of integration of the fine nuances of both Hindi and Urdu in Art Music and literature in current times. Gulzar sahib uses Hindi words extensively in his Urdu Nazmz creating beautiful passionate poetry that reaches out to all. The understandable reason is that for the youth Romanticism and its language is connectivity - to peoples, Culture and Thought. ‘Andaz-e- bayan ‘ should touch the heart and the issues relevant to times.
I have the optimism that wide largehearted inclusivity in languages enhances its growth. The young of today Incorporate Urdu zuban and its nuances with Hindi idioms and words as easily as they put it to music and this infuses fresh blood in each. This is evolved Hindustani that must be encouraged if we want our young generation to not forget the usage of both Hindi and Urdu.
