In an interview with a leading media website, she once said that “I was always a free bird, too independent to be tied down. I spoke to family often and when I missed them, I rushed home. By nature I’m not the kind to cling to one place, I like adventure. While at the institute I was offered two films - Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Guddi and Uphaar ... there was a third film too and they wanted me to shoot immediately. But the faculty declined the offer because it was against the rules. They felt allowing a student to shoot before completing the course would demoralise other students and they were right.”

We all know about the rumoured extramarital affair between Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan and how things had reportedly gone sour between Jaya and Rekha. On this, once in an interview with People magazine, Jaya Bachchan said: “By just leaving him alone. You have to have the conviction. I married a good man and a family that believes in commitment. (Thinks) You must not get too possessive, especially in our profession, where you know things aren't going to be easy. You can either drive the artist crazy, or you can help him or her grow. And if he goes, then he was never yours!"

When she was probed further if those rumours about Amitabh Bachchan’s affairs disturbed her, Jaya said: “(Thinks) You are a human being, you do react. If you react to negativity, you also react to positivity. You are reassured every second by gestures, by looks, by happenings, and that keeps you going. (Thinks more) A human being at a very vulnerable age and time gets carried away either ways, and if you are sad you are sad, and if you are happy, you are happy.”

Speaking on their love story Jaya once said that when they met for the first time, she was terrified of him. She said that she knew right away that he could dictate her to do anything he wanted. In fact, she also said that he was the only person who she knew will make her do things and she would do it all just to make him happy.

Jaya is also one of those actresses who never minces her words and is actually well known for being too blunt. When ‘Farah Khan’s “Happy New Year” released which had superstar Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead role, who Amitabh and Jaya consider as their son and had their actual son Abhishek in a supporting role, Jaya had not exactly spewed honey over it. She had said that she not only did not like the film, but was also found it nonsensical.

Then she went on to say that the only reason she watched the film was because her son was in it and that she believes him to be a great actor if he could act so stupid in the film. Well this certainly did cause a tiff between the Bachchans and Shah Rukh Khan.

During the music launch of Abhishek's film ‘Drona’, the actress out of nowhere said that "Hum to UPwalle hai, hume Hindi mein hi bolna chahiye." This fired up the Raj Thakeray and he asked for an apology. He said that she involved entire Maharashtra for no real reason after having made all of her fortune in Maharashtra itself.

Not just this, when Amitabh’s Last Lear was being screened, the theatres were attacked and they threatened to not let any of the films by anyone who is a Bachchan to be released. Amitabh had to issue an apology on her behalf.
