Also referred as Shravana, it is celebrated as the fifth month in the Hindu calendar, Sawan holds special significance for devotees. It started on July 4, 2023, and is expected to end in August 2023. According to the Tamil calendar, it is also the fifth month, but the Bengali calendar celebrates it in the fourth month.

It signifies the arrival of southwest monsoon, which is essential for a good harvest. Many devotees fast on Mondays and Tuesdays to please Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

It is believed that if you worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in this month, you will be blessed, and your desires will be fulfilled. Many devotees pour water on the Shivling throughout Sawan. They offer nightshade (datura), cannabis (bhaang), and Aegle marmelos leaves (bel patra) to Lord Shiva as these items are believed to be his favourites.

Many people, however, do not know that they can also clear vastu dosha in this month and attract prosperity into their homes. Beads Of Dried Stone Fruit (Rudraksha)

Rudraksha beads are considered auspicious by followers of Hinduism. It is associated with Lord Shiva, therefore, if you bring it home on a Monday or any other day during Sawan, it will bring good luck.

According to astrology, if you wear it after praying or install the beads in your prayer room, it has the power to align stars in your favour. It will also attract wealth into your house.

If people wear Gauri-Shankar Rudraksha beads, they will bless their married life. Your personal life will become blissful, and you will develop a strong bond with your loved ones. Rudraksha beads are also believed to promote the flow of positive energy in the house.

Silver Aegle Marmelos Leaves (Bel Patra)

Devotees believed that Lord Shiva loves Aegle marmelos leaves (bel patra). Therefore, throughout the month, many people offer three leaves attached to a single twig. They also draw Om on it using sandalwood (chandan) or vermilion (roli) before offering it to the Shivling.

Gangajal

The water from the Ganga River is believed to be magical and auspicious no matter what time of the year. Many Hindus even use Gangajal during the last rites of a beloved family member in the hope that the person will be relieved of all the pain and experience bliss in the afterlife.

If you do not have auspicious water from the Ganga River, you can get some during Sawan. You should pour it on Shivling every Monday until the end of the celebration. The remedy can have a positive impact on one’s luck.
