Suniel Shetty On Hera Pheri 3: ‘Akshay Kumar Can’t Be Replaced’

Akshay Kumar, who portrayed Raju in the originals, was one of the main characters in the first two movies. He announced that he won't be appearing in the third part. Earlier, there were reports that Kartik Aaryan will be replacing Akshay Kumar in the comedy franchise. However, in a recent interview, Suniel Shetty expressed his excitement at Kartik Aaryan joining the "Hera Pheri" team but made it clear that the actor would not be replacing Akshay Kumar in the upcoming third instalment. For those who don’t know, Hera Pheri revolves around Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty), and Babu Bhaiya (Paresh Rawal) and their never-ending schemes to make quick money.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama Suniel Shetty was asked to comment on his hope to get back the original cast. Shetty said, “That would be the best thing to happen. There are speculations that Kartik replaced Akshay. See, Akshay cannot be replaced. The makers are in talks with Kartik for a completely different character. So, there’s no argument.”

He also added that Hera Pheri 3 will be a different experience without Akshay Kumar. “What finally happens is something that needs to be seen. I am not aware because I am genuinely busy with Dharavi Bank. I have had no time to sit down and work on all this. I’ll sit down and understand and talk to Akki and others and see what happens. I will try to get him back,” he added.

During a media event, Akshay Kumar shared that he wasn’t satisfied with the movie script, which is why he chose not to be a part of the third instalment. He said, “I have to do what people want to see. That is why I backed out. It is a part of my life and journey for me. I am also very sad that I can't do it.“

On the work front, Shetty will be next seen in a web series called Dharavi Bank opposite Sonali Kulkarni and Vivek Oberoi which will mark his OTT debut. Dharavi Bank will release on MX Player on November 19, 2022.
