The year 2022 began with the third wave of coronavirus and most of the world still continuing work-from-home settlement. Music has been a respite for the people locked down in their houses for over two years now.

While Pasoori from Pakistan singers Ali Sethi and Shae Gill unsurprisingly topped the list of most searched songs on Google in 2022, Indian singer Aditya A’s Chand Baliyan occupied the third spot and Srivalli from Pushpa: The Rise took the 10th. Other top 10 positions were claimed by international songs from bands like Imagine Dragons, BTS, Backstreet Boys, and Dreamland, among others.

Pasoori

Breaking several records, Coke Studio’s Pasoori tops the list of songs we heard on loop in 2022 ever since it was released. The song became the most-viewed music video ever on YouTube with 487 million views and the most Googled song across the world in 2022. The masterpiece brought Pakistani singer Ali Sethi to international fame and also became the most streamed song on Spotify.

Calm Down

Nigerian singer and rapper Rema and Selena Gomez’s Calm Down shot 100 million views on YouTube in less than three months and currently has 189 million times on YouTube. The song became one of the biggest hits of the year and was used in over 1.5 million Instagram reels.

Made You Look

From sassy dance numbers on the dance floor to dancing in your pyjamas in your bedroom, people danced to Meghan Trainor’s Made You Look like crazy this year. Over 1.3 million reels have been made using this song by the end of 2022.

Until I Found You

Though Stephen Sanchez’s Until I Found You released in 2021, the song rose to popularity through numerous Instagram reels and TikTok in 2022. The song received over 28 million views on TikTok and 74 million views on YouTube.

Unholy

Sam Smith and Kim Petras scored their first no. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with their 2022 song Unholy which has been going crazy viral still now in 2023. The song was nominated for the Grammy Awards and has been played over 90 million times on YouTube. Unholy has also been used in over one million Instagram reels in 2022.

Kesariya

Kesariya from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer 2022 fantasy adventure film Brahmastra became a hit even before the film released. Kesariya was one of the most-talked-about songs from one of the most-talked-about films as it featured the couple for the first time on screen and was also released just a while before their marriage. The song has 379 million views on YouTube.

Chaand Baliyaan

Chaand Baliyaan, that surprised everyone by making it to the top 10 of most searched songs on Google in 2022, is composed and sung by Aditya A who is a pathologist by profession. He composed the song on social media in 2020, two years prior to when it finally became a hit. He said in an interview that the song is inspired from his wife complaining about buying her chand baliyaans (earrings).

As It Was

It is hard to keep a track of the number of reels that has been made using Harry Styles’s As It Was. It is his second song that people went crazy about after his hit Watermelon Sugar. As It Was has 402 million views on YouTube.

Kings’s modern romantic ballad Maan Meri Jaan has been rating on top of all music charts and trending like crazy on reels and music apps. So much that even Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram calling his song “mood” which was in agreement to majority of the fans. The singer who rose to popularity with Tu Ake Dekh Le gave another hit with Maan Meri Jaan which has 114 million views on YouTube.

Shauq

The year ended with Shauq played on almost every second Instagram reel on the feed. The song is from Netflix’s latest film Qala starring Babil Khan, Tripti Dimri, and Swastika Mukherjee. From using it in the background of romantic videos to funny meme videos, this song has been on numerous reels since its release.
