Despite having clogged showers at homes, we know how luxurious it feels to have a powerful stream of water during a shower. If you have been to some of those amazing hotels, then you might also have experienced showering under those large enough shower heads that make you feel that you’re in a rainforest and the falling water is probably massaging your body. But of course, at the end of the day, you also want to have the same experience at your home. What if we say that it is possible to have the same rich experience at your home, and all you need to do is clean up your shower head. Now, we are not talking about spending oodles of money, but simply trying some easy hacks.
Baking Soda
Almost every Indian households have a small jar full of baking soda, as it is used in cooking, baking, and cleaning. In fact, baking soda can be regarded as one of the best natural cleaners because of the ingredient being alkaline in nature. This property helps it to dissolve almost all kinds of dirt, scum, and grease in water. The best part is, it also deodorises by neutralising odour molecules. Here’s how you can clean your clogged showerhead using baking soda.
Steps
- Lightly wet the showerhead. Make sure the water is not dripping from it, otherwise this hack might not work.
- Take a tablespoon of baking soda. Dab it on the showerhead using your hand.
- Try to cover the whole head with baking soda.
- Let it sit for 30-45 minutes.
- Once done, take an old toothbrush and clean the showerhead in circular motions.
- Lastly, wash it with hot water.
Vinegar
When it comes to cleaning bathrooms, vinegar is one of the best natural ingredients. The high acidity level of this ingredient helps in loosening up the deposited minerals. Thus, vinegar, which is alkaline in nature can remove deposited rust or scum.
Steps
- Take 2 cups of white vinegar and put it in a clear plastic bag.
- Now carefully tie the plastic bag to your shower head using a rubber band, so that the head of the shower is submerged in the liquid.
- Leave the showerhead in the same position overnight.
- Next morning you will notice the bag has residues of scum in it and the shower is unclogged.
Steel Wool & Toothpaste
Steel wool or wire sponge is highly effective when it comes to cleaning grease or stubborn dirt particles. The thin wires of the material help to flawlessly scrub every hook and nook. For this hack, you will be needing any toothpaste and a ball of new steel wool. While the steel wool will swab everything that’s creating the blockage, toothpaste, on the other hand, will work as the cleansing agent.

Steps
- Take a generous amount of your toothpaste, directly apply on the showerhead.
- Spread it evenly, using your hands.
- Then take your steel wool and starting working in the circular motions. If the toothpaste has become too dry, use a few drops of water.
- Keep scrubbing until the shower becomes spot clean.
- You might have to do this 2-3 times, in order to unclog your shower head.
Lemon & Salt
Lemons are multi-beneficiary. Not only they take care of your health, but this fruit, rich in vitamin C is also amazing for all kinds of cleaning. The natural acidic quality of lemon not just removes the rust and grease, but also the bacteria, and any kind of foul smell.
Steps
- Take a large size lemon, cut it into two halves.
- Take the first part, dip in salt, and start cleaning the showerhead.
- First, go clockwise and then try anti-clockwise to remove everything that is stopping the flow of water.
- Once done, leave it for 30 minutes.
- Repeat the same with the other half.
- Lastly, wash the showerhead from piping hot water. However, be extremely careful while doing so, to keep yourself from burning.
