During quarantine, we all are looking for some shows, movies to watch while chomping on homemade snacks. So how about watching short films which don't just have amazing content but have a stellar cast which includes Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Jackie Shroff, Anup Soni, Mona Singh and more!? These amazing "shorts" which are just 12 to 20 minutes long are there on Youtube and are fun to watch! I hope you like my choice and if you do, please comment below and let me know so that I can come up with more and keep sharing the joy of cinema!
Chintu
This film featuring our much loved Annup Soni, talks about how the happiness of a carefree childhood is worth more than thousand luxuries in life. Directed by Anubhav Anand, this 10 minute short is something that will leave you pondering over small things from your childhood... as one viewer on YouTube has commented: "all about the kid we leave behind while moving ahead in our life..."
Ishq Ki Googly
Ishq Ki Googly is written and directed by Neeraj Udhwani and featuring Amol Parashar and Manu Rishi (Ankhon Dekhi, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!). The film is a quirky comedy, which centers around a husband’s plan gone awry to murder his wife’s illicit lover. It is a fun film with no other underlying meaning! Watch it here:
Glitch
This one has been written and directed by Shubham Yogi. It is a heartwarming tale of a 12-year-old boy who travels back in time to try and stop the break-up of his parents. Starring Mona Singh as the mother, the short film is a must watch.
Khujli
Written & directed by Sonam Nair, produced by Chintan Ruparel & Anuj Gosalia and starring Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta. 'Khujli' was released by Terribly Tiny Talkies on their official YouTube handle. Neena Gupta, who has been a part of several content-driven films and TV shows and Jackie Shroff make a fine pair in the Sonam Nair directorial. It has been produced by Terribly Tiny Talkies. Now coming to the plot, an interesting one as well, the short begins with an itch in the lower neck region and moves to an altogether different sensation in another part of the body. Girdharilal (Shroff) finds a pair of hot-pick handcuffs in his son’s bedroom. He thinks he knows what they are for, but it is left to his wife Roopmati (Gupta), who has read the book Fifty Shades of Grey, to explain the finer points of BDSM [(bondage and discipline (B&D), dominance and submission (D&S)]. Roopmati encourages Girdharilal to channel his inner Christian Grey, leading to a comic sprint around the bedroom.

Juice
Starring Shefali Shah, an actress who is synonymous to the content-driven cinema, Juice, a Neeraj Ghaywaan directorial is something you cannot skip. It is old, but I am sure you have not seen it. It is a powerful short film which also features Manish Choudhary. The short which is only 15 minutes long, is set during a dinner get-together scene, a regular house-wife is in the kitchen while her husband is enjoying drinks and snacks with his office colleagues in the living room. Keeping Manju company are the wives of the aforementioned office colleagues... More than the number of dialogues, the short focuses on the visuals, the backgrounds, and the sounds. It takes a look at the normalised patriarchy and misogyny in middle-class Indian homes which has been beautifully executed.
L
Pankaj Tripathi, who plays a laundryman in Abhiroop Basu's short film Laali, told media this short took him just a moment to say yes to the short film. He said in a statement: "Laali is a beautiful and experimental film entirely shot in Kolkata. I shot for the first time in Kolkata. The producers of the film Sireesha Kadiyala, Madhu Singhee and Sushila Jain are group of three young ambitious women who approached me for this film and narrated me the story at the Mumbai Airport in a span of 45 minutes and I agreed to play the part in Laali instantly." Oh and interestingly, the Mirzapur star also added that "the film initially had a run time of 20 minutes but got stretched to over 40 minutes and it turned out to be beautiful." An added bonus: The poster of the short film has been hand painted by Pankaj!
Agli Baar
Agli Baar is another old on which features Raskia Duggal. This one is a bit hard-hitting as it is based on the lives of those who live in the shanties of Annawadi Slum, how the demolition and life threat lumber over them and those who help them, every day. Directed by Devashish Makhija, this short will make an impression on you for sure. A brilliant job hands down, you have to see this one.
