We all have to attend those meetings in the office that simply kill our time and energy. Despite stretching for a long time, they mostly end up being non-productive. But, thanks to numerous debates and discourses on social media, we know how entrepreneurs like Elon Musk strive to make these meetings fruitful. One of the key points that have come out in these social media posts is something unusual: It's how a good bond between a boss and their subordinate (for lack of a better word) can turn a dull meeting into something constructive. Ms. Shraddha Subramanian, business coach and founder-CEO of Sparkling Soul, shares more on the important and often overlooked connection.
To enhance the productivity of office meetings, a boss must share a good bond with his or her employees and vice versa, as "culture is what drives the organisational results," notes Ms. Subramanian.
The boss-subordinate relationship can make or break a company and that too "exponentially," she adds. In that light, she shares the 5 key ways in which a good bond drives these meetings to be productive:
Setting the intention for the meeting up front is necessary. When the boss and employee move towards the same intention, the conversation becomes productive and focused. Results come in quicker and if there's a diversion from the topic or outcome that the meeting is expected to create, it still is easier to refocus as the intention is clear.
Complete presence means the other party feels heard and this helps in resolution rather than creating a conflict. This further aids in finishing meetings on time and reducing sharing the notes repeatedly.

Asking your employee about their emotional state and telling yours is a good way to break the ice and start a warm conversation. This creates team bonding since vulnerability helps people to be more open and connected. Everyone will willingly take part in the discussion, which means the general listening goes up. As a result, the team works with a different level of connection after the sharing session.
When the employee-boss relationship is of curiosity, it makes them stand on the same side of the table. This opens up space for both to understand the perspectives and come to a consensus with ease. Moreover, curiosity leads to listening, which leads to a better outcome.
The meetings need not be in the same format every day or every week. Adding creativity and innovation can bring in a surprise element, leading to productivity. Employees look forward to attending such meetings and contribute to making them exciting. This helps them bond over something more than work and work-related updates or discussion.
"Overall, the bond between an employee and leader plays a huge role in making the meetings meaningful and purposeful. The energy in the room is the energy that flows in the organisation's contribution to exponential success," wraps up Ms. Subramanian.
