The Knights Templar Massacre (1307)

The oldest recorded major tragedy on Friday the 13th happened on October 13, 1307. King Philip IV of France ordered his soldiers to arrest and kill hundreds of Knights Templar across the country. The Knights Templar were a powerful religiousgroup that had become very wealthy during the Crusades.

The attack was planned carefully. On the same day, soldiers arrested the Knights Templar in cities across France. Many were tortured and burned alive. The king took all their money and property.
