Ranveer Singh Opens Up About His Casting Couch Incident

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh recently opened up about the casting couch struggles he faced during the initial years of his career. The actor made his Bollywood debut with Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010 along with Anuskha Sharma. Currently, he is at the 19th Marrakech International Film Festival in Morocco with his wife and actor Deepika Padukone. He received the Etoile d'Or award in appreciation of his stellar career.

He thanked all his fans by sharing the post on social media platforms, Singh captioned, “Cinema is a unifying force! I feel immensely honoured that my work has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, and has earned me such love and recognition in beautiful Morocco. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude! Thank you to the Marrakech International Film Festival for bestowing me with the prestigious Étoile d’or Award! Proud to be an ambassador for my culture and represent Indian Cinema on the world stage! @marrakechfilmfestival”.

During a media interaction at the 19th Marrakech International Film Festival in Morocco, Singh recalled the horrifying experience where he was subtly approached for sexual favours by a casting director/producer, who he would not name. He said, “The producer called me at his place and asked, are you a hard worker or a smart worker?" To this Singh remembers replying, "I think I'm a hard worker." The casting guy allegedly further said, "Darling, be sexy and be smart."

Singh continued, "I had all those kinds of experiences during those three-and-a-half years, and I think it was that period that makes me value the opportunities I have now.”

Casting couch is a harsh reality that fresh new talents experience often. Many actors with established careers have also experienced such harassment in the early stages of their careers.
