The current generation is high on their selfie game. With the advancement in mobile camera technology, taking and posting selfies on social media platforms has turned into a trend that doesn’t seem to be fading away any soon. But have you ever wondered despite all those likes and comments, what your Instagram followers think about your personality? The psychologists of Washington State University found it out by conducting a study on hundreds of actual Instagram users in 2019.

They found that people who post a lot of selfies are viewed as insecure, socially awkward and less likeable personalities in comparison to those individuals who share posts clicked by others. "Even when two feeds had similar content, such as depictions of achievement or travel, feelings about the person who posted selfies were negative and feelings about the person who posted posies were positive," said Chris Barry, researcher and the lead author of the study published in ‘Personality’.

According to the study, the positive feeling about the posie posts is viewing them as “more adventurous, less lonely, more outgoing, more dependable, and more successful and having the potential for being a good friend,”. The reason behind the observer’s opinion could be because of the fact that the viewer finds it more natural and relatable.
