According to a press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, conferred 3 Padma Vibhushan, 8 Padma Bhushan, and 55 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2024 during a grand Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Alongside the President, the Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, and the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, graced the occasion. Notable figures such as Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, along with other Union Ministers, were also in attendance.
The Padma Awards, among the nation's most esteemed civilian honours, are presented across three distinctions: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognise outstanding contributions across a diverse spectrum of disciplines and fields, encompassing areas such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, and more.
According to the list, renowned singer Usha Uthup, former Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik, esteemed industrialist Sitaram Jindal, and celebrated Theyyam folk dancer Narayanan EP were among the notable recipients of the prestigious Padma awards bestowed by the President of India.
Ms. Vyjayantimala Bali for Art, Shri Konidela Chiranjeevi for Art, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu for Public Affairs, Shri Bindeshwar Pathak (Posthumous) for Social Work, and Ms. Padma Subrahmanyam for Art were honored with the Padma Vibhushan.
