What Are NYT Connections And How To Play It?

The New York Times' new word game, Connections, is going viral on social media. The game's creation is credited to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, who brought it to the Times' Games section. Players can access the game on web browsers and mobile devices, where they need to group four words that have something in common.

In the game, you will find 16 words that need to be grouped into four categories. These categories can be anything, like book titles, software, or country names. The trick is to find the one correct grouping, as multiple words might seem like they fit together. If you guess a group correctly, those words disappear from the board. You can make up to four mistakes before the game ends.

The game also lets you rearrange and shuffle the words to help you spot connections more easily. The word groups are colour-coded, with yellow being the easiest and purple being the hardest. Like Wordle, you can share your results on social media with your friends.
