All of us had been looking at Shraddha Kapoor’s pictures playing the talented Saina Nehwal in her biopic. But now Parineeti Chopra has replaced her in the Amole Gupte directorial. There were rumours last year that Amole was unhappy with Shraddha for giving a ‘second-hand’ treatment to his movie as she was juggling the dates with another movie Chhichhore starring Sushant Singh Rajput. But sources close to the projects had denied them. So what really happened?
News confirming the replacement was shared by movie critic Taran Adarsh on Twitter:
IT’S OFFICIAL... Parineeti Chopra to play renowned badminton player #SainaNehwal... She will start training for the biopic soon... Directed by Amole Gupte... Produced by Bhushan Kumar... Filming will be completed by 2019-end... Early 2020 release.

Shraddha Kapoor may be having a lot on her plate as she is also a part of the trilingual film Saaho starring south superstar Prabhas. She is right now shooting with Varun Dhawan in London for Street Dancer 3D. After this, she will be seen in Baaghi 3 with Tiger Shroff, the shooting for which is slated to begin in a couple of months.
So Was It Just A Scheduling Conflict?
Shraddha Kapoor had started filming for the Saina Nehwal biopic since September 2018 and had been training rigorously to get into her role. But the shooting came to a halt as the actor was diagnosed with dengue. Shooting had resumed with other actors as Shraddha was supposed to join in April this year. But producers of the movie, Bhushan Kumar Production, took the call to replace her instead. According to a Pinkvilla report, Shraddha was taking time in getting the nuances of the character right due to which she was replaced and in fact, the actor was quite relieved with the decision. Parineeti Chopra, on the other hand, will be soon seen in Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari, which is based on the Battle of Saragarhi that took place in 1897 between the Sikh Regiment of British Indian army and tribesmen of Afghanistan.

Was Deepika Supposed To Play Saina In The Biopic Too?
Before there was Parineeti, there were talks of Deepika Padukone playing the role of Saina Nehwal and why not, she is after all the daughter of ace badminton player Prakash Padukone and also a pretty good player herself. But then the makers decided to go with Shradhha Kapoor instead. At that time, Shraddha had indeed tweeted out that it will be her most difficult film till date.
The preparation for this film is going to be very, very challenging. It's probably going to be my most difficult film till date.

But after some time, the makers of the movie had been declared as stalled as the lead Shraddha Kapoor was said to be not ‘financially feasible’. Deepika’s name was again the running due to here star power. But looks like those talks got shelved too since Deepika was pretty much caught up with Padmavat at that time.
The film has faced a lot of delays and it remains to be seen when it will get released finally.
