The last two years have been tough on all of us, but finally we can put them behind us. As we wait to start afresh and build new habits, the past years have taught us that unpredictability is part of the norm. Keeping this in mind, individuals have also become aware that both their mental and physical wellbeing is essential as they are working towards their goals. Here are five women sharing their New Year resolutions and what they hope to accomplish this year.

Sonya Barlow, Founder of LMF Network

“As a media personality, I have to lead by design, so I plan to not buy new clothes and reuse what I have – to be sustainable, showcase the importance of being true and inspire others. I also want to get a book deal for a novel I am writing for brown women, in hopes to empower them while they are in the workplace and guide them for things they are never told about – from negotiating pay to balancing families. Two other things on my list are re-learning Urdu language to connect with my culture, especially after being in the UK for years, and learning how to cook so that I can recreate my family recipes that have been passed down through generations and in turn eat healthy food.”

“I got a lot of tests done this year and I was diagnosed with thyroid, which brought along a host of problems. I want to reduce my sugar intake or completely quit sugar in 2023. The idea is to eat healthy as I love desserts. I hope to gain control of my weight and health.”

Aashna Vora, Founder of Sex Education India

“My New Year’s resolutions for 2023 are to quit extreme people-pleasing, to create culinary content for myself and not Instagram’s algorithm, to improve my relationship with food, and to work on not needing constant external validation. Moreover, I hope to become a better sex educator and expand Sex Education India.”

Anisha Gopi, Team Lead, Nyaaya

“For me, 2022 was the year of overcoming challenges and breaking barriers. As the Team Lead of a non-profit committed to making the laws accessible to the most underserved groups, I feel so proud of what we have achieved this year. However, my new year resolution for 2023 is to help create a society in which language and technology are longer barriers for those accessing justice, especially women and girls and I hope more women and girls feel empowered by the law, not disillusioned by it and that to me will mean that we are making progress as an organisation and as a nation.”

Avani Shukla, Founder of Warriors Connect

new year resolutions

“At a personal level, my goal is to do the best that I can without letting self-doubt come in my way. Finally, I have Warriors Connect, a platform to connect individuals with mental health issues, and I hope to expand it even further so that our support group can grow in numbers and members can create closer connections. I wish to make the experience of being in a peer support community more enriching. In 2023, I also need to remember that my own mental health might limit my pace, but that is alright, I must not let it limit my drive.”
