HZ Exclusive: Miss India 2019, Suman Rao, Talks About Things That Matter To Her

Suman Rao from Rajasthan, who has been crowned Miss India 2019 and will be representing the country at Miss World later this year, says that the cause closest to her heart is that she wishes every woman to enjoy equal status in the society and be treated equally as their male counterparts.

Suman, who, in an exclusive interaction with this correspondent revealed that the moment her name was announced she felt like it was a dream come true for her further elaborates upon the cause closest to her heart. The young winner says, "To change the mentality of the society where they look at an individual as a human being and not discriminate based on gender."

She further adds that while figuratively women having an equal status in the society but she would rather see it actually getting implemented, rather than being empty talks.

Speaking about her inspirations, Suman, who is also a trained Kathak dancer, reveals that her family is her biggest inspiration. Speaking about the same, she says, "(My) father inspires me to be dedicated, my (mother) inspires me to be grounded, (my) elder brother inspires me to be a self-learner and the younger one inspires me to live the life to the fullest. To sum up I would say I get inspired by each and everyone around me for some or the other thing."

As for her views on pageantry being a medium of social change, Suman says, "It gives young women the platform where they could voice their opinions and views, which in itself is the empowerment of women."

Talking about her future plans, Suman said that she wants to represent the country at Miss World and "maintain the bar" set by her predecessors. Post that, Miss India 2019 wishes to complete her degree in Chartered Accountancy so that she could be called as "Miss World CA Suman Rao".

20-year-old Suman, who hails from Rajasthan, will be representing India at Miss World 2019 in Pattaya, Thailand on December 7, 2019.

Speaking about the moment her name was announced as the winner, she says, "The feeling is inexplicable, I feel so happy that I did everyone so proud and although it was uncertain, I'm glad it happened.”

And when asked what her advice for youngsters who dream big is, Suman concludes, "Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. If you really want your dream to be turned into reality, make small efforts towards your dream every day without fail."

In her profile for Femina Miss India 2019, Suman answered that she finds Ranveer Singh to be the sexiest man alive. Her favourite actor is Shahid Kapoor.

The 56th Femina Miss India was crowned at a star-studded ceremony at Sardar Vallabbhai Patel Indoor stadium in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Rao went on to beat 30 other contestants from across the country to win the coveted crown. The evening also saw Shivani Jadhav from Chhattisgarh bagging Miss Grand India 2019 title, while Bihar’s Shreya Shanker won Miss India United Continents 2019. Telangana’s Sanjana Vij was sashed Miss India Runner-Up 2019.

The pageant conducted a nationwide hunt in all the 30 states (including the national capital, Delhi). The top 3 contestants from every state won a Golden Ticket to the State’s Zonal crowning ceremony which was held in Bangalore (South Zone), Delhi (North Zone), Pune (West Zone), and Kolkata (East Zone) of which one of the three was crowned as the respective State Winner. Following the initial rounds, the state winners underwent rigorous training from the best in the industry for 40 days before the Grand Finale which saw Suman Rao winning the crown.
