When it comes to designing a home, the floor is more than just a surface you walk on, it sets the tone for the entire space. Few debates in interiors are as enduring as marble versus tiles. While marble whispers timeless grandeur with natural veining and heritage appeal, tiles offer versatility, contemporary charm, and easy upkeep. Nitika Devpura, Head of Product Design and Development at Devpura Marble, shares her expertise on the debate.
Nitika said that when it comes to choosing the right flooring, the argument between tiles and marble has been ongoing for decades. While tiles are often considered a practical choice, marble continues to stand tall as the ultimate option for those who value beauty, durability, and timeless elegance.
She shared that one of the biggest drawbacks of tiles is their repetitive and predictable design. Being mass-produced, they often lack individuality. Once a particular design goes out of trend, it becomes difficult to find the same pattern again, leaving spaces looking outdated. Marble, on the other hand, is nature’s artwork. Every slab has its own veining, texture, and personality, making each floor unique and timelessly stylish.
She also said that comfort is another factor that sets marble apart. Tiles absorb and retain heat, which can make interiors uncomfortably warm, especially in tropical climates. Marble, however, is naturally cool to the touch, keeping homes and commercial spaces pleasant even in peak summers. This natural property makes marble not just elegant but also practical for long-term comfort.

Where tiles are restricted in use, mainly for flooring, marble’s versatility knows no bounds. Beyond being a premium flooring option, marble can be crafted into elegant showpieces, stylish utility items, and bespoke décor pieces that add individuality to any space. From chic tabletops and vases to customised sculptures and kitchenware, marble carries an artistic charm that tiles can never replicate.
Marble is a symbol of luxury and sophistication, a testament to your good taste and style that can elevate any space from modest homes to the most lavish palaces. Design, aesthetics, comfort, durability, versatility, maintenance, and luxury appeal, marble has it all that tiles or synthetic materials just can’t match.
While tiles offer convenience in installation, their lifespan is generally shorter compared to marble. Marble, once installed, can last for decades without needing replacement, whereas tiles may require periodic replacement over time.
India has a diverse range of indigenous marble, renowned for its quality and elegance. When polished, Indian marble offers a shine and brilliance that rivals the finest marble produced anywhere in the world.
