As Kolkata gets ready for its biggest festival, Durga Puja, the West Bengal government introduced special buses in the city for shoppers to shop with ease.
The bus was launched by West Bengal Transport Department and will ply in Kolkata’s shopping Zone which includes areas like Gariahat, Shyambazar and Esplanade.
The buses will be available from September 10 to September 25, on Saturdays and Sundays. The bus will ply on the roads from 12 noon to 9 pm.
West Bengal's transport minister said the buses would be functional from September 4 to September 25 adding that these buses will also ply on weekends and on Government holidays as well.
Routes Of Buses
The specific routes of these buses are:
- Esplanade to Howrah
- Esplanade to Dunlop
- Shyambazar to Barrackpore court
- Gariahat to Howrah
- Gariahat to Parnasree Palli
- Gariahat to Behala Chowrasta
Durga Pujo Celebrations As COVID-19 Situation Improves
An officer at the West Bengal Transport Department said that "Since 2020, Covid stopped people from wholeheartedly celebrating Durga Pujo, but this time since there are signs that the situation is much better, people would want to celebrate it in a big way. To facilitate this, we are making maximum arrangements," reported News18.
Kolkata Getting Ready For Durga Puja
After two years of limited celebration, Kolkata is all prepared to celebrate the Durga Pujo with full spirit. As the COVID situation has improved, the city will be celebrating the big festival without restrictions after two years.
Durga Puja In UNESCO’s List
In December 2021, Durga Puja was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Eric Falt, director of UNESCO New Delhi said that “I am confident that this inscription will offer encouragement to the local communities that celebrate Durga Puja, including all the traditional craftspeople, designers, artists, and organizers of large-scale cultural events, as well as tourists and visitors who partake in the inclusive festivity that is Durga Puja.”
