Making her debut in the Malayalam film industry, Tamannaah Bhatia is set to star in the upcoming film Bandra. The actor, who has predominantly worked in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films, will be seen opposite Malayalam filmmaker and actor Dileep, who is currently the chief conspirator in the ongoing 2017 Kerala actress abduction and sexual assault case.

On the occasion of Malayalam filmmaker and actor Dileep’s 55th birthday, Bhatia dropped the first look poster of Dileep from the film while wishing him. Sharing the same, director Arun Gopy, wrote, “With utmost zeal and excitement, I would like to share the first look poster of my new project. Extremely grateful to my Producer, Ajith Vinayaka for making this project a reality. Most importantly gratitude and deep love for my superstar Dileepettan who is celebrating his birthday today. Wishing you a blessed and fantastic birthday dear Dileepetta. May you have a wonderful year ahead.”

Dileep will be seen portraying the role of an underworld don in the upcoming film which marks his 147th project in his career spanning over two decades.

Dileep’s case dates back to February 17, 2017, when an actress who primarily worked in the Malayalam and Kannada film industry was abducted while she was travelling from Kochi to Thrissur in Kerala. She was sexually assaulted in the moving car and then dropped off near Malayalam director Lal’s residence. Soon after the incident, Pulsar Suni, the driver of the vehicle she was assaulted in, was arrested as the first accused in the case and later that year in June he accused that Dileep had conspired the kidnapping and assault.

A month later, in July 2017, Dileep was arrested as the eighth accused in the case, but was later granted bail that October. Following his bail, the prosecution counsel alleged that the trial proceedings were constantly delayed. However, at the end of 2021, some serious allegations levelled against Dileep by filmmaker Balachandra Kumarthe helped the case gain momentum again. Based on the filmmaker’s allegation that Dileep had watched the video of the sexual assault at his house, the trial court directed the crime branch to conduct a fresh probe into the case.
