Speaking about Roe v. Wade, Lawrence reminisced about her early 20s when she got pregnant for the first time. She had decided to get an abortion, but before that could happen, she lost the baby. ‘I had a miscarriage alone in Montreal,” she said.

She had another miscarriage in the past. At the time, she had to get a surgical procedure done on her through which the tissue is removed from the uterus. It is called D&C (Dilation and Curettage).

For her, imagining an 18-year old mother with a child and limited options was too much to bear. However, when she got pregnant a couple of years ago, she wanted to keep the baby, she was financially stable, married, and wanted to welcome a child into the world.

Lawrence said her pregnancy was great. “I had a very fortunate pregnancy,” she added. However, she also wondered, “What if I was forced to do this?”

She pointed out that whoever wants to have a child on this earth would also want everyone to have restricted access to guns, as gun violence is one of the biggest issues in the US, and the number one cause of death in the country.

‘Talking About Motherhood Is Scary’

Lawrence finds it scary to talk about motherhood because the experience is different for everyone. She said people are quick to judge no matter what a mother shares about her experience.

However, Lawrence had a group of friends who were honest about it and told her that she might not instantly connect with her baby or fall in love with him right away.

While remembering taking a walk with her friend when she was nine months pregnant, she mentioned how she had told her friend, “Everyone keeps saying that I will love my baby more than my cat. But that’s not true. Maybe I’ll love him as much as my cat?”

However, the morning after she gave birth to her son, she felt like her life had started all over again. “Now is day one of my life,” she added.

She said she fell in love with all babies everywhere. Now she thinks newborns are amazing and calls them, “These pink, swollen, fragile little survivors.”

The actor is aware that all actors, with her level of experience, are overpaid. However, the discrepancy (gender pay parity) still bothers her.

She said, “It doesn’t matter how much I do. I’m still not going to get paid as much as that guy, because of my vagina?”
