Airtel, Jio, And Vodafone Announced Tariff Hike

From July 3, 2024, onwards, India’s major mobile network operators, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, and Reliance Jio, have declared huge mobile recharge tariff hikes. These three private telecom providers have made an increase of 10 to 27 per cent in their prepaid and postpaid mobile recharge plans. Consumers nationwide have expressed backlash against this decision. However, BSNL, another telecom provider, has not announced any mobile recharge tariff hikes yet, which makes it a great option for consumers to port their SIMs.

What Is BSNL?

BSNL, or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, is a fully government-owned telecom provider and mobile network operator that was founded on September 15, 2000. Amidst the mobile recharge tariff hikes made by other giant telecom operators, BSNL hasn’t announced any hikes yet.

How To Switch Your SIM From Jio, Vi, Or Airtel To BSNL: A Step-By-Step Guide

Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide on how to switch your SIM card from Jio, Vi, or Airtel to BSNL:

  • Step 1: First, you need to ensure that all your overdue bills with your current telecom provider are settled.
  • Step 2: Now, you need to generate the Unique Porting Code (UPC). To do that, start by sending a message with the following text: “PORT [Your mobile number],” to 1900. The UPC code is valid for 15 days, but in selected places like Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and the North East, it is valid for 30 days.
  • Step 3: Now that you have the UPC code, it is time to visit your closest BSNL service centre or retail store to complete the posting process.
  • Step 4: You will receive a Customer Application Form (CAF) from BSNL, which you need to fill out. You will need a valid photo ID and address proof to complete the process.
  • Step 5: Next, submit the UPC code and pay the porting fees (if any). Once done, you will be provided with a new BSNL SIM card and a message notifying you about the process completion and activation of your BSNL SIM. Finish the process by replacing your old SIM with the new one on your phone.
