You will need several materials to make compost at home which includes vegetable and fruit peel, coffee grounds, dry leaves, egg shells, finely chopped wood, shredded newspaper, straw and sawdust from untreated wood. You can collect these materials in a separate bin. Rather than throwing the kitchen waste, collect it in a closed bin.
How To Make Compost At Home?
Follow the steps to make your compost:
Step 1: Collect all the above-said materials in a bin and make a pile at least 3 feet deep with a combination of wet and dry items.
Step 2: Now sprinkle water on the compost regularly to get a damp sponge. Use a compost thermometer to check the temperature for proper decomposition.
Step 3: When the centre of the pile feels warm or when it reaches a temperature of 55-65 degrees celsius, stir the compost to prevent matting and developing a foul odour.
