Here are the tips to grow clove plants at home:

Choose The Right Location

Clove plant needs a temperature below 15 degrees celsius and high humidity around 60-70% to thrive. However, if you live in hot and humid climatic conditions, you can grow your clove tree outside. But ensure not to put the clove plant under direct sunlight for more than three hours.

Choose Rich And Loamy Soil

The clove plant needs well-draining soil for growth. Moreover, rich, loamy and tropical soil is the best condition for the growth of the clove plant. You can add organic matter like peat moss and compost to enrich the soil. Choose a soil which has a high percentage of sand or clay.

Plant The Seed On Top Layer

You can place the soil on the top layer of the soil and ensure a high humidity level while the seed is sprouting. Cover the soil with plastic wrap. You can buy fresh clove seeds from the nursery. However, make sure the seeds are not dried. Place the pot in a partially shaded area where it receives 3 to 6 hours of sunlight. Also, keep the soil damp but not waterlogged.

Here is how you can maintain the clove plant:

Water Regularly

Young clove plants need plenty of water to grow. If you don’t live in a rainy area or if you are growing clove plants indoors, water (watering tips for plants) them every time the soil dries out.

Add Fertiliser

Clove plants need fertiliser at least twice a year. You can use compost, bone meal, and fish meal to fertilise the plant.

Keep A Check On Pests

Clove plants are prone to pests and diseases. Thus, it is important to keep a constant check on the plant's health. Prune any branches that die or become diseased to keep the plant healthy. However, don’t use any insecticide or sprays (natural sprays for plants) until you can be sure they are safe for clove trees.
