If you love bananas then you can grow the tree at your home and enjoy its fruits. While most people prefer to grow it in their garden, it is possible to grow a banana plant in a pot as well. If you use the right method and provide the right conditions, then you can grow a banana plant in your home in a pot. Here is your step-by-step guide to growing a banana plant at home in a pot.
Step 1: Get Banana Seeds
To grow a banana tree in a pot you will need banana seeds which are easily available in the market. You can get to the nursery as well to fetch banana seeds. Soak the banana seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours. The seed coat will eventually soften and the embryo will sprout quickly.
Step 2: Soil Mixing
Take a container and or a pot where you want to plant your seeds and fill it with soil. Make sure to choose a large container to grow a banana plant that has a free-draining feature. Now sow the banana seeds ¼ inches deep and then backfill the pot with compost. Make sure the soil contains enough nutrients and good-quality compost.
Step 3: Watering And Germination
Water the seeds until the soil gets moist and try to maintain the damp conditions as it is important to grow healthy banana plants. The seeds take time to germinate. However, the time duration depends on the banana variety. It can take around 2-3 weeks to 2-3 months to germinate.
Step 4: Add Fertiliser
Fertiliser is important to provide nutrients (how to make soil fertile) to the seeds. Fertilise the young plant with a nitrogen-rich fertiliser once a month. However, after the plant gets mature, fertilise it regularly.
