According to Hindu mythology, Shivling is considered a symbol of Lord Shiva. It is believed that when we worship a deity, the idol or symbol acquires some spiritual energy that acts as a representation of that deity. When it comes to the worship of Shivling, devotees worship it with great devotion in different ways. While some people offer water to Shivling regularly, some people show their reverence by offering raw milk to Shivling. Talking about the worship and installation of Shivling, special rules have been made for it. If you install Shivalinga in the temple of your home, then it's necessary to follow certain rules to ensure happiness and prosperity in the house. Ahead of Mahashivratri here are some of the rules shared by Pandit Ramesh Bhojraj Dwivedi for shivling establishment into the house.
Shape Of Shivling
While establishing Shivling it is important to consider the shape of it. Many people prefer keeping a large size Shivling in their home which is not considered auspicious. However, shivling should be small in size for the home, specifically, it should be not more than the size of the thumb.
Number Of Shivling
As per Vastu rules, there should not be more than one Shivling at home. Since shivling is a symbol of Lord Shiva and Shiva is the same. Thus we should not use different symbols for him in one place. Although, according to astrology, it is prohibited to install more than one idol of any God in the home temple (shiva temples in noida).
Type Of Shivling
If you are keeping a Shivling (puja timing of mahashivratri) in the house, then try to keep only the Shivling made of stone found in the Narmada river in the house, it is considered most auspicious. The material should preferably be of this stone. However, if you are installing a Shivling made of metal, then keep in mind that it should be made of gold, silver or copper and a metal snake should also be sitting around the Shivling.

Vastu Direction Of Shivling
There are two acceptable directions for establishing Shivling. Shivalinga should be established in such a way that at the time of worship, the devotee's face should be towards the east and the Shivalinga should be kept towards the west direction. The water reservoir of Shivling should always be towards the north. Apart from this, you can also keep the water reservoir of Shivling towards the east and the devotee should worship facing north.
