Home is where the heart is, and yours should feel like a haven. Every nook and cranny tells a story about you and your loved ones. Even if your space is small, it can still be incredibly cosy and inviting. Let's explore some clever ways to make the most of your space and create a home that feels truly yours.
Home Makeover Trends For Small Spaces
Here are some trendy ways to elevate small spaces, suggested by Aashita Chadha, founder of The KariGhars:
Multifunctional Furniture
Even as your home's furniture sets the tone, invest in multifunctional pieces. In small homes, storage is a major challenge. Opt for furniture with built-in storage, such as sofa beds, under-bed storage, and ottomans. These smart solutions maximise vertical space. Consider wall-mounted shelves, cabinets, and hooks. Foldable dining tables and wall-mounted desks save space and serve dual purposes, while Murphy beds offer space-saving functionality.
Less is More
“Opt for an open plan layout with minimalist décor to avoid crowding. Using rugs or partition zones is a great area to create separate spaces as it doesn’t block light like regular walls, giving an illusion of a bigger space. Colours too make a lot of difference. Using neutral tones like whites, beiges, and pastels gives an airy, open feel to the space. To make the space more vibrant just add a pop of colour with décor items such as plants, artwork and even cushions,” said Aashita.

Use Compact Appliances and Fixtures
When space is limited, prioritise compact appliances. Consider slim refrigerators, washer-dryer combos, and wall-mounted sinks. Additionally, opt for wall-mounted lighting instead of bulky floor lamps to maximise space.
Creative Use of Corners
“Utilise every inch of space by installing corner desks, corner seating areas or shelving units. Triangular furniture that fits snugly in awkward spaces is the way to use every corner. Moreover, one can install mirrors to reflect light, giving an illusion of a larger space. Glossy finished furniture or tiles also add to the brightness of the room even as reflective surfaces make the room look larger,” said Aashita.
