Himachal Pradesh Day 2025: Himachal Pradesh Day is annually celebrated on April 15, the day when Himachal Pradesh was designated as an independent state. The word ‘Himachal’ is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘Hima' (snow) and ‘Anchal’ (lap). This is because the state is located in the lap of the Himalayas, surrounded by hills and valleys. This year on April 15, India celebrates the 78th Himachal Day, which commemorates the independent existence of Himachal Pradesh as an Indian province. Himachal Pradesh was established on April 15, 1948, one year after Independence. Following it, it became a Union territory on November 1, 1956, and on December 18, 1970, the state of Himachal Pradesh Act was passed by Parliament, and Himachal Pradesh was designated as the 18th state on 25 January 1971 with Shimla as its capital. The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu tweeted on social media ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), "On this occasion of Himachal Day, we all together will further strengthen our resolve to establish the state as a strong and self-reliant state.”

April 15, Himachal Pradesh Day serves as a reminder of the region’s history and the resilience of its people, who consistently worked hard and overcame challenges to preserve their culture, traditions, and values.
This year the official celebration of Himachal Day will take place at one of the serene and remote locations in Himachal, Pangi Valley, located in the Chamba district. The event will be held at Killar, the headquarters of Pangi Valley.
