Societal pressure and injustice are among the norms of today. While people try to bear with day-to-day life challenges, very few still try to seek help and get treatments from experts in the field. And if we talk about women and the hardships they face in a world dominated by patriarchal ideology, Jyoti Mehta, a mind coach and NLP counsellor, is among the few people who fully support women's empowerment. She has been an inspiring idol for many who believe in the popular notion that the future is Female.
Answering some of the frequently asked questions on feminism and women's empowerment, Mind Coach Jyoti speaks up about the new awakenings in the world.
Question 1: What keeps you driving for women's empowerment?
Being born in a village, I know the ground-level realities of women's household conditions, where some of my aunts are still not allowed to be a part of the family’s decisions. Even though my parents fulfilled a greater vision for my education, I know that when it came to marriage 16 years ago, my education became a secondary priority. And now, when I meet and counsel even the well-educated women, who seem to be empowered, but I know the underneath bitter realities of domestic violence, motherhood, career choice dilemmas, and having no say in family finances, I realise the work done so far is just a drop in the ocean. I know that until and unless women enhance their self-worth, the shift in society is not coming.
Question 2: What impacts do women in power or in positions of leadership bring to society?
They come up as a possibility for young girls. The mind awakens with possibilities. All the records that were made in any sport 10 years ago were considered unbreakable, but when thousands of minds got this information, possibilities awakened, and all the records are broken today and new parameters are set. Similarly, when society sees women in power or in a position of leadership, at herd learning level, so many girls’ minds are ready to take that position, and society starts accepting such positions for women as the new normal. New parameters will be set, and society will upgrade gradually.
Question 3: Do you believe in strong role models and mentors for girls and women, and why?
Our mind has something called mirror neurons, which are always at work. We are mirroring behaviours, and that is how we picked up our parents walking styles and talking accents. We are an average of five people that we surround ourselves with externally or internally. So, I highly recommend that girls and women have role models. Modelling is a complete concept in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) to accelerate one’s growth by modelling successful people’s mindsets. I would suggest girls and women list out what their definition of success is, what they truly want, and then find someone who has already achieved it. Now start looking into their methods and mindsets. Even during this research, you won’t even know when your mirror neurons will start gifting you with similar successful ideologies.
Question 4: How important is it to empower women today for the betterment of the next generation or society?
Women make up 50% of the world’s population, and their future definitely depends on them. Moreover, women also play the role of mothers and are the foundation of a family. Raising the next generation with a growth mindset and unshakeable values is still heavily dependent on mothers. An empowered mother would raise empowered children. The majority of teachers in our country are also women. Their mindset and energies are transferred to children, teenagers, and youth instantly. By by empowerment, I do not just mean money and fame but also self-mastery and a growth mindset. I have counselled mothers who do not let their children move out of the city, don’t let their children try non-conventional careers, and consider marriage the ultimate aim for daughters. I am glad to see that these women now not only teach growth mastery to their families but have also started working on themselves, empowered with the belief that Age is just a number. Women need to empower women and fix each other’s crowns.
Question 5: What actions are you willing to take to support women’s rights and contribute to positive change?
I really want women to understand and accept their rights first. I want women to consider themselves worthy of equality. I teach self-mastery, and I tell people no one is coming to fix your life; even God helps those who help themselves, and then I see even certain well-educated women guilty of taking half an hour of ME-TIME, forget about taking equal space in parliament. I loved it when Priyanka Chopra said "Good girls don’t make history; bold girls do". There can be enough rights written on paper and announced, but women are burdened with the ideas of perfectionism—the desire to be this perfect mother, perfect daughter-in-law, perfect homemaker, and respected and accepted only for so-called sacrificial traits. I am glad that more than 90% of the enrollments in my courses like Relationship Mastery and Programme Your Child are women. It gives me a lot of joy to break down their unnecessary guilt that is stopping them from growing. I am visiting some NGOs for free talks where girls and women can get over their ideas of assault and low self-worth using NLP techniques.
Question 6: What are your views about prevailing feminism?
There are a number of laws made to protect women from ill practises like dowry and domestic violence, but we do see that not every woman is benefited by them, and there has been misuse as well. Similarly, feminism is about asking for equality at the human level and not hating men. Rather, I consider that we need more men to support and empower women, and mutualism should be the new society's mantra. Men and women are not equal; we are two different beings with our own specialties, but we are definitely equal as humans or citizens to have equal wages for equal work.
Jyoti Mehta’s message is straightforward and effective. Through coaching, she gives people the tools they need to accept their individuality, adopt a development mindset, and realise their full potential. She is a supportive coach and holistic healer, in addition to being an industry peer who prioritises holistic growth and achievement.
