One of the most popular faces of Indian television today, Shilpa Shinde has come a long way. As she celebrates her 41st birthday today, we look back at her journey through the years. The actress who is a popular name in the nation today went missing for long before she actually had a show like 'Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai' in her kitty. She later became one of the most loved contestants on the reality show 'Bigg Boss'. Her journey in the industry has been very similar to the television dramas she has been a part of.
The Beginning
Shilpa Shinde stepped into the industry in the year 1999. She was a part of television shows like Sanjeevani, Amrapali, Haatim, Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai, Waaris among others. However, none of her shows worked enough to bring her the much-required limelight. Shilpa continued with the kind of roles she was getting.
Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain
Shilpa Shinde's struggle for such a long time finally gave her a show like Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain. Shilpa's character 'Angoori Bhabhi' did immensely well and soon she became a household name. Her unique accent and expressions made everyone fall for her and she gained instant limelight. However, no one knew that it would come to an end that soon. As per reports, Shilpa demanded the producers to give her a hike seeing her popularity on the show. Producers claimed that she started showing tantrums on the sets to get more money from the makers. Also, there were reports that the producers stopped her from taking any projects with other channels because of the exclusivity clause in her contract.
Shilpa, on the other hand, was firm that the makers made her work like a puppet and didn't pay her what she actually deserved. This led to a major fight between Shilpa and the makers of the show. Shilpa had an unofficial ban on her from working on television because of this fallout. In all her interviews post that, Shilpa was seen naming Vikas Gupta, &TV's programming head for ruining her career.
Bigg Boss
Shilpa's entry in Bigg Boss was a happy news for all her fans. But who knew that Shilpa and Vikas would come together on the Bigg Boss show and let the world witness that drama. All the personal grudges between Shilpa and Vikas were out in public when they entered the show. Shilpa tried her level best to make Vikas' life miserable on the show. She found the right place for her revenge and never left an opportunity to annoy Vikas on the show. However, it was a major twist when we saw Vikas and Shilpa coming closer during the last weeks of the show. Vikas even asked Shilpa to work with him at least once after the show.
Other than Vikas, Shilpa had major fights with co-contestant Hina Khan, who was often seen body shaming her and accusing her of not performing tasks on the show. Things turned worst when her two supporters, who also called her 'Maa' on the show, Arshi and Aakash turned against her during the last days of the show. Hats off to Shilpa Shinde for staying super cool inside the Bigg Boss house even after she was put through the most difficult situations. There were times when she was body shamed, bullied and even completely cornered by her co-contestants. Shilpa stood strong and knew when and how to play the game.
She was often criticised for staying in the kitchen, cooking all day to save herself from the tasks inside the Bigg Boss house. Even with tons of negativity surrounding her, she never let anything affect her game. Her strength was that she knew when to speak and when to play. Finally, she emerged as the winner. Her biggest win was getting back all the limelight that was taken away from her.
