Safety of women is something that needs immediate attention speaking of the country I live in. On one hand, I am proud to be an Indian, on the other hand the growing "rape culture" is scaring me day by day. I don't know if I am safe while walking back home even in the day time, should I ever ask for help from anyone if I am stranded in the middle of nowhere. Amidst this thought process which I suppose every woman must be having at the moment, ace shooter Heena Sidhu, has put in a reuqest openly on social media, to Home Minister Amit Shah to provide licenses to carry guns (for women) in the light of the ghastly gangrape and murder of a woman veterinarian in Telangana.

The 27-year-old was brutally raped and murdered before her body was burnt in Telangana's Shadnagar town last week. The heinous crime has shaken the entire nation with so many expressing their anger on social media as well.

On Wednesday, Sidhu took to Twitter, tagging Amit Shah and requested for letting women carry guns.

She wrote: "I request the home ministry and honorable home minister @AmitShah to make licenses and licensed weapons mandatory for every woman in this country rather than amending the arms act for lesser licensed weapons, tweeted Sidhu.

"Ppl with licensed weapons r not d problem. We want 2 feel safe n travel around, go 2 our work n come back safely, we want to b able to defend ourselves because d forces/police is not up for it. when its a gang against 1 girl gun may b her only chance," she added.

The Telangana rape and murder victim was returning home after a visit to a dermatologist in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. When she returned to her vehicle which was parked near the Tondupally toll plaza, had a flat tyre. She called her sister on her phone to inform her about the punctured tyre and even raised an alarm about some men who were following her continuously.

The next day, her burnt body was found and the Telangana police arrested four men on the charges of raping and murdering the woman. Right now there have been many protests for new laws that should be introduced for increasing crime against women in India.
