From integrating Gemini AI into Chrome to the launch of a new AI filmmaking app, the announcements signal Google’s ongoing focus on AI-driven experiences across its platforms. 1. AI Mode for Search Rolls Out to US Users

Starting this week, Google is expanding access to its AI Mode for Search to all users in the United States. This new search tab integrates the company's Gemini AI chatbot directly into the search experience, fundamentally changing how information is discovered and presented.

The company announced plans to test advanced features within AI Mode throughout the summer. These include deep search capabilities and functionality to generate charts for finance and sports-related queries. Additionally, shopping capabilities will be integrated into AI Mode in the ‘coming months,’ further expanding its utility.

2. Project Starline Evolves into Google Beam

Google is rebranding Project Starline, its immersive 3D video calling booth, as Google Beam. The technology will now be available in an HP-branded device with a light field display and six cameras to produce a 3D image of the person on the other side of the video call.

3. Gemini 2.5 Pro Introduces Enhanced Reasoning Capabilities

Google has developed an experimental ‘Deep Think’ mode for its Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model. This specialised reasoning mode is engineered for complex mathematical and coding queries, with the ability to evaluate ‘multiple hypotheses before responding.’ The feature will initially be limited to trusted testers before wider distribution.

In a parallel development, Google has made its efficient Gemini 2.5 Flash model available to all users through the Gemini app, while simultaneously improving its cost-effective model in Google AI Studio ahead of broader implementation.

4. Gemini Comes to Chrome

Google is embedding Gemini directly into the Chrome browser, beginning May 21, 2025. Users subscribed to the Gemini AI Pro or Ultra plans will see a Gemini button in Chrome that can summarise content, clarify information, and even navigate web pages on their behalf. Initially, it will support two open tabs, with expansion to more tabs planned later this year.

5. Google Introduces Flow – An AI Filmmaking App

Google also launched a new tool called Flow, designed for AI-assisted video creation. The app uses Veo, Imagen, and Gemini to generate eight-second video clips from text or image prompts. It also includes a scene builder to stitch clips together and create longer videos, making the tool ideal for content creators and storytellers.

6. Premium ‘AI Ultra’ Subscription Priced at $250 Monthly

A new top-tier subscription called ‘AI Ultra’ is being introduced at $250 per month. This premium offering provides access to Google's most advanced AI models and higher usage limits across applications, including Gemini, NotebookLM, Flow, and others. Subscribers also receive early access to Gemini in Chrome and Project Mariner, which can now process up to 10 tasks simultaneously.

7. Xreal Partners with Google on Smart Glasses

Xreal and Google have announced a collaboration on Project Aura, a new smart glasses prototype utilising the Android XR platform for mixed-reality devices. While comprehensive details remain limited, the glasses will feature Gemini integration, an expansive field-of-view, and apparent built-in cameras and microphones.

Google has also established partnerships with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker to develop additional Android XR smart glasses.
