Iqbal
The 2005 coming-of-age sports drama film Iqbal follows the story of a cricket-obsessed deaf and mute boy hailing from a remote Indian village. Iqbal (played by Shreyas Talpade) dreamed of overcoming all difficulties and playing for the Indian national team one day which he does eventually with the help of his teacher. The Naseeruddin Shah, Talpade, Girsh Karnad, and Shweta Basu starrer went on to win the National Award for the Best Film On Other Social Issues.
Taare Zameen Par
Making it to the Oscars’ official entry from India, the 2007 Hindi drama film Taare Zameen Par explores the life and journey of an eight-year-old dyslexic child, Ishaan (played by Darsheel Safary). He excels in art but academics are not his forte. The story follows how his boarding school teacher Nikumb (played by Aamir Khan) suspects he has dyslexia and helps him overcome his disorder.

Stanley Ka Dabba
In this 2011 Hindi drama film Stanley Ka Dabba, Stanley (played by Partho Gupte) studies in the fourth grade in an all-boys school in Mumbai’s Andheri. Unlike his other fellow classmates, Stanley, who is very popular among them, doesn’t bring his own dabba or lunchbox to school. While Stanley is adored and encouraged by Ms. Rosy (played by Divya Dutta), his Hindi teacher Babubhai Verma (Amole Gupte) cajoles not only his colleagues but also forces other students to not share food with him. He further forbids Stanley from coming to school unless he gets his own tiffin.
Hichki
Based on American motivational speaker Brad Cohen’s autobiography Front of the Class, the 2018 Hindi drama film Hichki stars Rani Mukherjee as Naina Mathur who has Tourette syndrome. She is an aspiring teacher, who is rejected by several schools because of the syndrome that causes her to make uncontrollable sounds similar to hiccups or hichki. She is ultimately accepted at St. Notker’s School, her alma mater where she has to teach a class of unruly, underprivileged kids

Super 30
The 2019 Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30 is a biographical film about mathematics teacher and educator Anand Kumar and his educational program. Based in Bihar’s Patna, the program is for IIT aspirants for underprivileged children. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the film narrates the battles fought by Kumar to ensure that the children get the right education, make it to the top, and crack their IIT entrance test.
