Known as Akti or Akha Teej, Akshaya Tritiya is an annual Hindu and Jain spring festival. It falls on the third tithi of the half of the month of Vaisakha according to the Hindu calendar.
The festival is said to be one of the prominent Hindu festivals which is celebrated to bring good luck to your home. Akshaya is a Sanskrit word meaning forever and Tritiya means third. It is believed that if something is purchased on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya then it stays with you forever.
For the year 2022, the festival is set to be celebrated on 3rd May. There are many legends and stories related to it that prove its significance in Hindu culture. It marks the beginning of summer, and farmers enjoy this time of crop blossoming by observing fasts and organizing fairs.
Significance Of Akshaya Tritiya
In a traditional Hindu lunar calendar, Akshay Tritiya is observed on the third day of Shukla Paksha in Vaishakh Month. It is also known as Parshuram Jayanti since Lord Parshuram was born on this day. Taking a bath in the holy river Ganga on this day has a special significance. One can also donate clothes, umbrellas, sacred thread, melons, etc to the priest for the peace of dead ancestors. The gate of Lord Badrinarayana’s temple opens up on this day for the devotees.
One should establish a picture of Lord Narayana on a platform and offer sweets and soaked chana dal to the lord. In India, all the works are done according to the muhurat, but during the phase of Akshaya Tritiya, one need not look for any specific muhurat. It is believed that every second of Akshaya Tritiya is auspicious.

Significance Of Charity On Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritiya is believed to be the festival for accomplishing great prosperity. Sacred deeds, charity, donations, austerities, holy baths, etc have special significance on this day. Taking bath in holy rivers such as Ganga, and the Yamuna is considered very auspicious. Donating articles and things such as clothes, water, food items, etc which can be used in summer is also considered auspicious. Goddess Parvati should be worshiped with wheat, channa, curd, milk, kheer, sugarcane, gold, clothes, water pot, etc on this day.

Fasting Rules Followed During Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritya is also considered to be a good time to observe fasts and worship the god. This day lies in the category of fast, as well as the festival, and all the sacred deeds performed have special significance. On this day the devotees should take bath early in the morning and begin fasting after worshiping the deity. First, establish a picture of Lord Vishnu or an idol and decorate it with sandalwood and a garland of flowers.
Now offer sesame seed, rice, and channa dal to the lord before beginning your prayers. Then, recite the Vishnu Sastranaam path while offering your prayers to the god. After completing the ritual of puja, offer some prasad to the lord and distribute the rest to the members of the family.
Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are also worshiped along with Lord Vishnu on this day. There is a tradition of eating rice and moong dal khichadi on this day.
Akshaya Tritiya is also known as Navan, which is why donating utensils, sweets, watermelon, milk, and curd is considered auspicious.
