If Muslims across various countries in the Middle East and the West spot the Shawwal crescent moon on April 8 evening, following the Ramadan fast's breaking at maghrib or evening prayers, chand raat will occur on Monday, April 8. Consequently, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated the next day, i.e., on April 9, 2024. However, if the Shawwal crescent is not sighted on Monday evening, chand raat will be on Tuesday, April 9, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. This scenario implies the potential for Muslims to observe a 30-day fast during Ramadan instead of the typical 29 days.

According to Hindustan Times, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted that the Shawwal moon is expected to be sighted on April 9, 2024, with the conjunction of the moon and the sun anticipated to occur on April 8 at 11:21 pm (local time). According to media reports, the Met Office suggests clear skies in the southern regions of the country, while the northern regions may experience cloudy conditions. Additionally, the possibility of a 29-day Ramadan, based on scientific evidence, is supported by the chairman of Pakistan's Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
