Difference Between Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha

While Eid ul-Fitr celebrates the end of Ramadan, Eid ul-Adha is a separate festival observed by Muslims around the world. Eid ul-Adha commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son, Isma'il (Ishmael), in obedience to Allah’s command. Eid ul-Adha honours his faith and devotion, symbolising submission to the divine will.

In contrast, Eid ul-Fitr is a day of celebration, expressing gratitude for the strength and patience shown during Ramadan. It is marked by festive meals, giving charity, and spending time with family and friends.

While March 31, 2025, is the anticipated date, the final decision will be made after Ru’yat-e-Hilal (moon sighting) on March 30 evening. The Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind and other Islamic bodies will announce the official date.
