How to Make Rakhi From Old Cloth

Since Raksha Bandhan is here, let us learn how to make DIY Rakhi from old cloth at home:

Material Required

  • Old cloth
  • Beads, big and small
  • Scissor
  • Thread
  • Needle and thread
  • Marker
  • Adhesive

Steps To Make Rakhi From Old Cloth

Step 1: Take an old cloth, preferably of any colour and fabric. Now keep a medium-sized bottle’s cap over it and mark its outline. Remove the cap and start cutting the outline using a scissor. Now you can see a neatly cut circular cloth which you will use to make petals.

Step 2: Fold the circular lot in half and start stitching the open end with a matching colour thread and needle. After stitching till the other end, stretch the thread so that the cloth takes the form of a petal. Tie the thread so the shape won’t open. Repeat the same procedure to make five more petals.

Step 3: Take one petal and insert thread using the needle. Now attach the next petal from the bottom section by stitching. One by one attach all the petals by stitching them together and form a circular shape so that it looks like a flower. Tie a knot at the end to secure it. Take a big bead and paste it in the centre of the flower using adhesive. Take smaller beads and paste them around the big one to beautify the rakhi.

Step 4: Take the thread and paste rakhi in the centre using adhesive and smaller circular pieces of cloth for support. Now if you wish to decorate the thread, insert beads on either side of the thread and make knots to avoid them from falling out. Your beautiful eco-friendly rakhi is ready.
