The festival of Diwali is right around the corner and we are here to share why fasting on Diwali is considered auspicious. While very few people know that a fast is observed on Diwali, this fast is especially observed by women. On this day, women wake up before sunrise and take a bath and then, after bathing and cleaning the entire house and the temple, wear clean clothes, light a lamp in the name of Mahalakshmi, and worship the Goddess.
Story Of Fasting On Diwali (Diwali Vrat Katha)
According to the mythology, once on the new moon day of Kartik month, Lakshmi ji had left her residence for a tour. Due to the new moon, it was dark all around at that time and she lost her way. When she could not find her place of residence, the mother thought that she would spend the night in the mortal world and return back to the Vaikuntha Dham after sunrise.
As it was late at night, everyone was sleeping in their homes with the doors closed. Just then she saw the door of a house open from a distance and a lamp was burning in that room. Seeing this, the Goddess started walking towards it.
