Germany’s sexual wellness company, ‘Billy Boy’ has launched an app called ‘Camdom’, a new digital privacy solution that prevents non-consensual recordings by blocking nearby cameras and microphones of people's phones, acting like a digital condom. In collaboration with Innocean Berlin, the app aims to keep intimate moments truly private.
“It prevents anyone from taking photos, films or recordings without your consent by blocking the cameras and microphones on your phones. It's very easy to use. Simply download the app from your store and lock your smartphones together. As soon as someone tries to disconnect, an alarm sounds,” said the company on its website describing the product.
What Is Camdom?
Camdom app is a one-of-its-kind ‘digital condom’ solution that is designed to combat revenge porn and protect sensitive data in an increasingly digital world.
Easy access to smartphones among teens has given rise to use of private photos, videos, or audio without consent. The leaked content is then spread like a virus, making it impossible to track, causing emotional distress, depression, and even suicidal thoughts among the victims. Camdom helps tackle this alarming situation by restricting the other person from clicking pictures or recording any video or audio during your private moment.

How Does Camdom Work?
Launched across 30 countries, Camdom uses Bluetooth technology to block the recording functions on nearby devices to ensure the privacy of private moments.
The users will have to place their phones side by side and swipe down a virtual button, which will block the camera and microphones on the phones. If someone tries to disconnect, the alarm goes off, notifying the other person. This app alerts the user of potential threats and sends a warning that their act might be getting recorded. It can simultaneously block as many devices as needed.

The 'Ads of the World', Camdom app developer Felipe Almeida said, “In today's generation, mobile phones are an extension of the human body and people tend to store sensitive content on their devices. In order to protect you from the recording of non-consensual content, we've created the first app that can block your camera and mic simply through the use of Bluetooth.”
The app is available on android for now and the company plans to launch it for iOS users soon.
